From Shay Gallagher, Village of Lakeview Manager:  On Tuesday March 6, 2018, the Village of Lakeview will participate in Black Balloon Day. Black Balloon Day is a county-wide effort to raise awareness of the opioid overdose epidemic that not only affects our home here in Lakeview, but the nation as a whole. The Daily News reported opioid-related overdose deaths have risen from one (1) in the period between 1999 and 2004, to 41 in the periods between 2005 and 2015. In 2016 alone, there were 11 opioid related deaths. The Village of Lakeview will be placing black balloons on our light poles through our downtown to raise awareness and mark our support to end this epidemic. We encourage all residents of Lakeview and Montcalm county to join us in this effort.
